"Every Breath You Take" was released on The Police's 1983 album Synchronicity and ended up being the biggest hit of 1983. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for eight week and the UK singles chart for four.


At the 26th Annual Grammy Awards, the song was nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo of Group with Vocals. Lead singer Sting won Song of the Year while The Police won Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.


The song ranked #84 on the Rolling Stone list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
